Coconut Hot Oil/Deep Conditioner

Coconut Oil

Massage warmed coconut oil to your scalp and hair. Wait 15 minutes, then rinse. You don't need to use conditioner after shampooing.
** Dont use coconut oil as hair treatment during cool months as it makes hair dull. Or use 30% coconut oil to 70% other oil. I like olive oil.**

Apply your banana-coconut mix to dry hair in the shower or over the sink. Use enough to saturate your scalp and hair, then put on a shower cap or towel and chill for 20 minutes. Wash hair as usual.

Once fully melted, add the almond or jojoba oil (or both if you like) as well as the vitamin E.

Stir for a few seconds, then allow the mixture to solidify.

Once it has solidified, whisk the butter into a whipped consistency, then place in a container and use as needed.

Thyme Toner for Acne

Thyme Toner for Acne

1 Tbsp. dried thyme
3-4 Tbsp. witch hazel

In jar or bottle, combine the thyme and witch hazel. Within 20 minutes your mixture should have a light brown color to it. This is good and means that your thyme is steeping well.

The beauty of this toner is that not only does thyme help to bust through dirt and oil, keeping your skin clean and oil free, but you can also use it right away. Simply pour a little bit onto a clean cotton ball and wipe over a clean, dry face. Keep the thyme in the mixture for a few days before straining it out and storing it in a cool, dry place for up to a month.

1.       Measure 1 Tablespoon of unflavored gelatin into a disposable container
2.     Add 1-2 Tablespoons of milk into the gelatin
3.    Mix it up, and be quick about it, until you get a chunky consistency. Add more milk if you’re uncomfortable with the amount of chunk.

Microwave the gelatin for about 10-15 seconds. It will get creamier in the microwave. Stir that around and start applying it IMMEDIATELY to your face. This stuff hardens up fast so you’ve got to act fast.

Wash your face before you apply. Apply with an old makeup brush or Popsicle stick, to wherever you need to clean the pores. Work quickly as it turns to gelatin fast. Let it dry for about 15+ minutes. Peel off.

1/2 teaspoon oil-based candy flavoring (opt.)

Grate the wax into a ziploc freezer bag. Add the coconut oil, petroleum jelly, candy melts and the flavoring. Place the bag in a bowl of very hot water and allow the ingredients to melt together. Massage the bag a bit to mix the ingredients together. Snip a corner from the bag and squeeze the ingredients into small containers. Pop your lip gloss containers into the fridge to cool completely

Sugar Lip Scrub

Sugar Lip Scrub

Pure coconut oil

Honey

Brown sugar

Make sure that the coconut oil is solid enough to scoop up but soft enough for a spoon to dig in. If the coconut oil is too oily, stick it in the fridge for 10-20 minutes. If the coconut oil is too hard, place it into a sink lled with hot water for 5-10 minutes or until soft. Combine one well-rounded tablespoon of coconut oil with one tablespoon of honey into the bowl.

Mix the coconut oil and honey until they bind together. The consistency should look like thick honey-comb honey. Make sure to mash up all of the coconut lumps so that the mixture is clump-free. This will serve as the base of the scrub.

Add two hand packed teaspoons of brown sugar and fold it into the base. Brown sugar not only tastes fantastic, it is also a great natural exfoliant because it’s not too harsh and leaves skin soft to the touch. All of the brown sugar should be coated in the coconut oil and honey base.

Add one teaspoon of just the oil from coconut oil jar into the bowl. This will help smooth out the mixture and make the scrub extra moisturizing. Transfer the scrub from the bowl into a small jar or container

The edible scrub will last up to 2 weeks if refrigerated. Before using, allow the scrub to stand at room temperature for a good 10 minutes so that the formula softens a bit. Apply scrub to lips in small, circular motions for 1-2 minutes and rinse off with a warm washcloth.

Olive Oil Face Wash

Olive Oil Face Wash

2 teaspoons liquid face soap or baby wash

Eye Makeup Remover

1 C water
1
½ TBSP Baby Shampoo (tear free)

~~Personally, I use straight coconut oil for mascara and liquid eyeliner removal~~

Coconut Oil Face Wash

Coconut Oil Face Wash

Use a scrub of baking soda and coconut oil every few days; ( or as often as you like) On the days in between, just use coconut oil. Use tiny amounts - a pinch of soda, and a bit of coconut oil the size of a pencil eraser. Wash in gentle, circular motions and rinse very well. Your face may seem oily afterward, but within a few minutes the oil is absorbed and your skin is glowing.

~~I have used every day, with no problems. ~~

Homemade Shaving Cream

Homemade Shaving Cream

1 cup shampoo

1 cup conditioner

5 Tablespoons lotion or cream

5 Tablespoons coconut oil (warmed in the microwave for about 15 seconds)

Combine all ingredients very well. Store in large container(s)
I made this one and didn’t care for it because it was so thin. I had used a Suave brand shampoo and conditioner and a lotion.
★Use Aloe vera gel as a shave gel! Try it... works wonders for me. I also use the Lemon Sugar Scrub and I have noticed that I do not have to shave as often!★

Nail Whiteners

Nail Whiteners

Make a nail whitening paste with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Apply a tiny ‘dot’ of this paste onto the center of each fingernail.. Let set for a few minutes, rinse off.

Or: (My favorite) Make a paste using 1 Tbsp. peroxide and 2 1/4 Tbsp. baking soda. Let this paste sit on your nails for 5 minutes and voila! White nails! REMEMBER THIS AFTER USING Dark NAIL POLISH!

Lemon/Honey Blackhead Remover

Lemon/Honey Blackhead Remover

½ lemon

3-4 drops honey

Drop the honey onto the lemon half. Rub the lemon on your face, emphasize the black heads prone areas like nose, chin etc. Leave the lemon and honey mixture on your face for 5 minutes, then wash it with cold water. You will see the results immediately. Additionally, lemon juice will also fade other marks/spots on the face and honey will moisturize.
I use this almost daily for the softening and moisturizing effects. Plus it makes my skin glow!
~~You can wrap the used lemon half in foil and store in refrigerator for, oh I’d say a few days, but I find mine good for almost a week. Well worth investing in a lemon!~~

Paraffin Wax Hand Treatment

Paraffin Wax Hand Treatment

1 block paraffin wax (about 4 oz), you can find this in the canning sections of your local grocery store.

 an ounce of oil

20 drops of essential oil... lavender is rather nice (opt.)

a few drops of olive oil or coconut oil (you will use this to coat your hands)

a casserole dish, greased with oil

 plastic sandwich bags

Preparation:
The following directions are for a hand treatment, you can also use this treatment on the feet.
Melt the paraffin, the ounce of oil, the scented oil in a double boiler. (The double boiler is necessary for safety purposes).
Very carefully pour the wax into the dish and wait until a skin has formed on the top of the wax. When this happens, the temperature should be about right for submerging your hands. Test the wax on your wrist to ensure the temperature is not too hot.
Prepare hands by washing them. Smooth the olive oil or coconut oil (I prefer coconut oil because it smells better) on your hands.
Dip each hand into the wax repeatedly until you have several layers of wax built up.
Have someone help you put on the sandwich bags onto each hand and then relax for about 30 minutes. You can also wrap hands in Saran wrap.
For added benefit, place a bath towel over your hands as you wait. (This is a perfect time to watch a half hour of TV.)
To remove wax, simply peel it off starting at the wrist. The wax should come off in large sections. Give yourself a little hand massage and you are done.

Lotion Bars

Lotion Bars

1 part vegetable shortening

 1 part vegetable oil

 1 part beeswax

Melt the shortening and beeswax a double boiler or a little pan in a bigger pan of simmering water. Stir in the vegetable oil. Pour into cups/molds and let cool. Pop out of “mold” and it’s ready to use. The beeswax will fragrance the bars with a nice, light honey smell, or you can stir in a little essential oil before you pour it into the molds.

To use: Let the warmth of your hand melt a little of the bar and rub into dry skinhands, feet, elbows, etc.

Luxury Lotion Bars1 part shea butter
1 part avocado oil
1 part beeswax
1200 IU vitamin E (1 lg. capsule) per every 6-8 oz. other oils
essential oil (optional)

Melt shea butter and beeswax in a double boiler or small pan in larger pan of water on the low heat setting of the stove. Stir in avocado oil and vitamin E and essential oil (optional). Pour into mold(s) and allow to cool. Pop out of mold if desired or leave it in a dish and scrape off a little as needed.

Note: Shea butter can occasionally become grainy. To avoid this, use just enough heat to get your ingredients to melt. Once your ingredients are blended, cool your mixture quickly by pouring into shallow container(s) in a cool room or popping it into the fridge to cool (not the freezer).

Beachy Hair Spray

Beachy Hair Spray

8 oz. warm water

Chocolate Face Mask

Chocolate Face Mask

1/3 cup cocoa

1/4 cup of honey

2 tablespoons of heavy cream (sour cream will work as well)

3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder

Mix all the ingredient until the mass in consistent. Apply on the face, gently massaging it so that oatmeal can start exfoliating the dead skin cell layer. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

This face mask recipe is an excellent moisturizer that leaves your skin soft and glowing.

Salicylic Mask (Acid Peel)

Aspirin Mask

6-12 Uncoated Aspirins

Lemon juice (very small amount)

Baking Soda

Water

Mash the aspirins into a powder; mix with a small amount of lemon juice to make a paste. Apply to face: let set for 10 minutes. To remove: Take about a half teaspoon baking soda and mix in ¼ - ½ cup water-use this solution to remove mask. The baking soda neutralizes the mask.

This mask brightens the complexion, helps reduce/fade dark spots, and is very good for acne.

I use weekly and it does itch as it dries, but the results are amazing! Follow with a moisturizer.

Sugar Scrub for Body

Sugar Scrub

1 ¼ cups sugar

½ cup Extra-Virgin Olive Oil or Coconut oil

3 Tbsp. lemon or lime juice

Combine ingredients well. Store in sealed container. DO NOT omit citrus juice, as this prevents the sugar from dissolving in the oil. You can add more sugar to thicken, or more oil to thin--depends on the consistency you prefer. I have used this for almost a year with wonderful results.

Just scrub it in with circular scrubbing motion and rinse offbe ready for softer, smoother skin!

~I occasionally use this on my face (gently) when I have really dry patches in the fall and winter, with no problems.~

Cuticle/ Lip Oil

Cuticle/Lip Oil

1 Oz. (2 Tbsp.) Cocoa Butter, chopped

2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil

1 Tbsp. Vaseline (opt)

1 Tbsp. Vitamin E Oil

Heat cocoa butter, coconut oil and Vaseline (if using) in microwave on “defrost” for about a minute-check often, as you want it just melted. DO NOT OVERHEAT!!! Combine well. Stir in Vitamin E oil and stir well. Pour into container(s). Use as needed. This has a slight chocolate scent!

I use on my lips, cuticles, hands, and heels. It is very greasy until it absorbs, but is worth it!

Welcome!!!

Hello and welcome!

I have a mad passion for makeup, beauty products and purses+ a few hobbies such as writing poetry and Smashbooking, but this blog is all about DIY Beauty Products. Most are quick and simple and I have, for the most part, tried them all. The ingredients are readily available @ most local stores, in fact you may have all of them on hand, and if not, they are relatively inexpensive. I think the most expensive item I have purchased was a large container of coconut oil from Kroger, which cost all of about $7.00 and it has lasted me about 6 months with daily use! I am just now running low! Not bad! Now on to the recipes and happy crafting!
DISCLAIMER: These ARE NOT my original ideas. I have accumulated these recipes over a few years from various sources. I may have adjusted or omitted ingredients, in some of the recipes here. I try to test the recipes myself. I have learned much through trial and error!
